Hiding Souls

Today, I learned that someone died
Last week, I discovered that someone lied
I can't handle everything that this world tends to throw at me...

Far from the blinding light of day
There is a darker, different place
I can't put my finger quite on it yet I know it's my only reality

Here in this tiny world of mine
Where hope refuses to ever shine
I know it's the only place where I can truly be myself

Perhaps I'm only running away
But then who won't one of these days
I'm just securing my spot in a world so filled with dark souls

Distort the ever-changing truth
Break down the barriers of my youth
I know perhaps I'm the dumbest one to ever realize that I'm truly smart

Someday when I'm a better me
Perhaps I'll even learn to see
That I'm wrong but now I'll just hide away within this tumor inside my heart

When you look into my eyes
Far away from two hundred thousand miles
Don't you see that the light is dimming even as you read these lines

These words are such that they can't be heard
Despite the fact you read every single word
But then what's the point when my soul is next to yours

It's not that really far away
The places where you and I choose to stay
Two different sanctuaries of my dark and your light

Right now my muse is dying down
So I'll let go of my perpetual frown
Know that I'll visit you in your dreams and perhaps you will in mine

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
