Come In From The Cold

Contributed by LovingWhispers on Monday, 13th October 2003 @ 03:35:40 AM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

And he shivered from the cold
As his protectors just watched on
I sat and waited patiently
For them to make his chills all gone
But they were warm and cosy
On a day so unlike spring
Where cold the wind blew through
Did they not care for him

I tried to turn my eyes away
Thought to tend my own affairs
But my mind just kept him with me
It was more than I could bare
I turned to see his little face
And as I caught his discomfort,I could see
That I didn't need my jacket
Not near as much as he

So I beckoned to this little boy
His steps took him quite a while
But when I draped my jacket 'round him
He was quick to give a smile
All snuggled in his new found warmth
His mouth gave way to words
And the way he sweetly thanked me
Was a delight for me to have heard

I lost a darn good jacket
Once before when on a train
I gave one once,I gave one twice
If need be,I'll give again
It wasn't really lost
It just found a new ride
And not a million gorgeous jackets
Could top the feeling left inside

My only sadness of the day
Was to leave him in the selfish hold
Of the ones who should have warmed him
And brought him in from the cold
That little boy stayed with me
In my mind,and even now
I shed a tear or two
When I sit and wonder how

How can the ones they look to
For love and its protection
See the sadness and the pain
Yet turn with full rejection
This little boy,this little man
Worth his weight in gold
Only wanted some protection
To be brought in from the cold
