dona nobis pacem

Topic: DreamsandWishes

peace, i grant you, is a desirable thing. (william carlos williams)

dona nobis pacem. (let there be peace.)

i had this vision one day of a house on a hill
(even though those who sleep so close to the stars
forget about those of us on earth)

it was a small house.

it was small enough as to not seem empty, the emptiness that comes with leaving the window open at night, with only the distant stars, like salt across the sky, as company. have you ever heard the sounds of the universe? or more importantly, have you heard the whales singing to each other? it is like nothing i have ever heard before, so wild, so lonesome, keening. so joyous. when you listen to the real sounds of the universe, it is as if all the stars were blue humpbacked whales calling to each other across the open plain, except much darker, because there is no air, and to meet would mean destruction. sounds like verona...

it was a grey house.

not grAy, but grEy. those who know what i'm talking about know the keening, the ache, that makes one throw one's hands in the air when standing by the ocean, hair whipping around, feet in the cold cold sand. as if that small action of yours could call someone home.

it was home.

with bookshelves and bookshelves and bookshelves
and the ocean out the window,
and a deep silent forest in the backyard, dear, oh so beautiful and peaceful.

i will spend my days searching for that house
and that feeling of clean weathered wood beneath my feet

for anyone who has a vision of their dream, this is a perfect poem.
i have a true dream for myself...and this poem speaks to me. I hope it finds others the same way.

i think any comment i could make would just be saying what has already been said by the other comments. this poem really captivated and gave me a new sense of hope in this time when i've been feeling so vulnerable and confused. thanks.
