Tonight is the sad tube scared of dying
Flickering and jumping
dancing for attention
Addled by guilt in a mask made of stone
solitary courage turning the pages of history
reconstructs a smell
of wet cement and dirt
Promises waver and glisten in the past and tiny in the new
Heaps of collapsed and discarded bodies
of war-torn protests tricked into life and families
fences and clouds by a frightened mass of best-of-its-kind,
top-of-the-line lies
