Broken Heart

Her picture stares into my eyes
Carving deep into my heart
And I feel, much to my surprise
The cold tears begin to start
My father once told me a real man’s goal
After birth should be to never cry again
Father dear, God rest your soul
You’ll never know my pain.
The ghost of her laugh echoes down the hall
Her cheerful voice rings across the lawn
I’m not sure what happened: she was all
That mattered to me, but now she’s gone.
I loved her with more than anything
From the first time that we went out
She made my spirit soar and my heart sing
She taught me what love was all about
The preacher said do you promise to love
And cherish her till death do you part
We said I do with the sun shining above
But we parted before death, and if I die, I’ll die of a broken heart
