I’ve Been Around
I’ve been alive forever, and I’ve been around,
I’ve seen the beginning of light and sound.
I’ve seen Betty Ross sew the first flag,
I’ve seen Elvis Presley put into a body bag.
I’ve seen the Titanic sail it’s maiden run,
I’ve seen cities bake under the sun.
I’ve seen Lincoln set the slaves free,
I’ve seen warships sent out to sea.
I’ve seen the first atomic bomb,
I’ve seen the first nuclear alarm.
I’ve seen Martin Luther King stand for his rights,
I’ve seen brave soldiers sent off to fight.
I’ve seen women get the right to vote,
I’ve seen letters that Anne Franks wrote.
I’ve seen the space shuttle fall from the sky,
I’ve seen the first President cry.
I’ve seen Mother Nature at it’s worst,
I’ve seen captives die of thirst.
I’ve seen controversy in the White House,
I’ve seen experimental drugs kill a mouse.
I’ve seen close election days,
I’ve seen evil dictators have their way.
I’ve seen twin towers hit the ground,
I’ve seen the first airplane break the speed of sound.
I’ve seen parents stricken with grief,
I’ve seen mad cow affect our beef.
I’ve seen Priests abuse our young,
I’ve seen the birth of a newborn son.
I’ve seen suicide bombers strike at will,
I’ve seen B52 bombers strike to kill.
I’ve seen a Nation fall from grace,
I’ve seen decisions made in haste.
I’ve seen kingdoms rise, and kings fall,
I’ve been around, I’ve seen it all.
