The Lost Child

Contributed by squeakymouse on Tuesday, 30th September 2003 @ 12:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

Like a handful of diamonds
sprinkled at a red light,
tiny twinkling shards of glass
littered the ground where you were last.
I see in my mind little bits of red,
convincing myself they were flecks of paint;
because I still can’t face the truth
that you weren’t coming back to me.

When they said that you had gone
I said, no, you are mistaken.
No child with so much love of life
could have been taken so young.
How was I supposed to know
that you were going to be
a precious gift that I couldn’t keep?

Too soon, too soon
you were taken from me.
My mourning goes on and on.
Three years on, I can’t forget.
My life a constant turmoil.
I seek you out, I search for you
in each child’s face I see.
Unfair, I cry within my heart
that others have their darling child
and you were stolen from me.

Tragic write. If this is autobiographical I do hope that writting about the lost one helps heal the pain. Thank you for sharing.
