Stairway to Nowhere

Contributed by blackfire9786 on Tuesday, 30th September 2003 @ 08:05:00 AM in AEST
Topic: mystical

Walking down the gray stone steps
A light just ahead, leading my way
The sounds of my footsteps echo off the stone
The music now begins to play

I’m starting to feel a little nervous now
As I walk deeper and deeper down.
The light grows dimmer, the music louder
Why shouldn’t I just turn around?

The walls are getting darker and damper
But beneath my feet the stones are getting warm
My heart is warning me to turn back now
But my mind drives me on.

Reaching for the light ahead of me
But never quite reaching far enough
Mesmerizing me, never letting go
My soul being dragged by my own cuffs.

I’m at the bottom of the staircase now
Wondering what lies ahead
This is my last chance to turn back
Or step forward to the world of the dead.

A veil of shadow falls before me
Hiding what’s said to be hell from view
I know to survive I must turn back
But I have to know if it’s true.

I slowly raise my foot from the stair
Squinting, I’ve got to know what lies beyond
The music stops, the step echoes from every wall
And I am forever gone.
