The Proud Walk of the Elephant*

Contributed by Glo on Tuesday, 30th September 2003 @ 12:05:00 AM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

I remember one day in particular, I was at home with my little girl,
Doing my chores, when something hit the floor.
Myself running to see if she was alright,
Before getting to her, I heard the slam of my front door.

She was safe, sitting on the chair...........
My favorite plant lay there on the carpet,
What a mess it was, I asked her "what happened?'
She told me just like before, "Mommy you won't believe it!"
I asked why, she said "because..........
Sitting there looking so content, "Mommy it was the Elephant."

Before I spoke another word, I cleaned up the mess.
Sitting down beside my daughter, thinking what to say?
My daughter looked up at me and asked, "Mommy can you stop working for a while,
So the two of us can play?"

I could sense something was on her mind,
Just what I didn't know.............
As we walked, she began to speak, "Mommy what would you do...........if you were in their shoes?"
"Who's shoes," I asked?
"The Elephants shoes.....what would you do?"

She said the reason he comes to different houses is to make us see,
How it feels when Mankind comes and destroys his land......his trees?
"We only want to live in peace he said, just as you do."
It seems Mankind takes and takes, he's never satisfied.
So many nights my friends and I can do nothing but cry.

I've been sent by the Elders to visit your homes,
To leave behind a little mess, just so you can see....................
How it feels to have your homes disrupted, just like our land, air ,seas and trees.
I speak for all Animals all over the world.
Spreading the message to tomorrow's future, every boy and girl.

On our way back home, I thought about what my daughter said, it all made sense.........
Everything except the Elephant.
When we returned home, we grabbed a snack, and started to watch t.v.
When my daughter called me over to the window.
"Mommy come quick and see!"

I stood there in total awe............................
There it was as big as day, I just couldn't believe,
Heading down the road to continue the job for which he was sent,
Looking at my daughter I apologized to her,
As we both watched "The Proud Walk
of the Elephant!"

Out of the Mouth of Babes!

Oh Glo, you are so talented indeed.
I just reread that for number three!
I love the way you bring in your story
Especially when implanted by a child.

Makes it all so worth while....
I hope you never lose that little girl in you.
And I hope your little girl never loses her
Elephant too!

Just loved it so much.
Thanking you again,
lovingcritters

reminds me a days long ago, with my three little ones!
They called me Auntie Mame....but it was really they that gave me the fame!
