Forty eight hours of agonising labour and pain,
And then to be asked - to give me a name
An ungrateful ***** I turned out to be,
I never really cared about anyone but me.
I know mother, I've heard it all before,
My brother's a bastard and I'm a nasty whore.
But I'll kiss you on the head, tuck you up in bed
And hope you know I don't wish you were dead.
Sometimes the cold in my heart takes longer to thaw,
But that doesn't mean I don't love you any more.
And no Mother, I haven't got a lover,
I have you and your poo to discover!
And what glossy magazine wants an old has-been
or an exhausted forty-five on its cover?
I'm not going away to a brighter sunny day,
I have no better plans than to wash up all the pans,
Then I'll make us some tea and we'll talk about your knee
About how you got the bruise and the snooker and the news.
Then your'll cry and say you're sorry for causing all this worry,
And you'll tell me to go and live my life,
Have someone's kids, become someone's wife.
But forty eight hours of agonising labour and pain,
Means you'll have me forever or 'till I go insane!
I know you don't remember everything you say,
But I'll always remember a brighter sunny day.
I remember the days you put plasters on my knees,
And told me the wonder of the birds and the bees,
You were always there, a warrior in my nightmare.
You'd kiss me on the head and tuck me into bed,
You promised me protection every frightful night,
You always kept your promise, I always saw the light.
So although I have never stolen any of your money,
Or when your bones crack I don't find it funny
And I've never plotted to put poison in your tea,
And I didn't put the bruise on your bony little knee.
I love you mum and all the while I'm here,
You'll never have to worry, you'll never have to fear.

Well, that was a breath of fresh air. Not what I expected after the first stanza or two, but enjoyable nonetheless.
