My chest throbbed with pain, anger, hurt
I didn’t speak to you after our fight, not a word
We were too proud, too stubborn
To budge from our stances, our opinions
But I was cut deep by the sting
Of your harsh words, your uncaring
mask. A tear rolled involuntarily
down my left cheek despite holding back hopelessly
But you ignored by sign of weakness
Were you sorry? You did not confess
Instead, you left me. In silence. Waiting for your apology
Next I knew, all was still. You didn’t move, didn’t breathe
I realised I was the one who was supposed to say sorry
A life without you was terrible to conceive
You left the world too soon
I reached you too late
The tinkling melody, accompanied by Elton John’s voice haunted me, when I heard
The lines, ‘Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word’
