What If?*

Topic: FamilyPoems

What if I walked over to my little girl, who was talking on the phone?
I asked her to help tie my shoe, she said "I'm talking, leave me alone."
Later on I asked her if she would ride bikes with me?
She told me, "I just got in from work, I'm tired, can't you see?"

A little while later my son came home, I asked if I could play cards with him?
He said "Don't you have friends next door?"
"Go over and play with them."
Towards days end I looked at my son and asked if he wants to play checkers with me?
His reply was "Mom, I've got laundry to do, go and watch t.v."

Does any of this sound familiar to you?
Don't be ashamed to say yes, I'm guilty of it to.
This world is such a rat race, it's like we're all machines,
Push a button to go to work, a button to clean.....
Parents, you know what I mean?

There's a couple of buttons that we sometimes forget to push,
The ones that say Family, and Power Off.......
The two most important ones of all.
Our children want us to know that they love us,
Also that we love them too.
Not by giving them material things, your Time, a Huge Hug and Kiss, also a Great Big "I Love You" will do.

Our children have much more to contend with in this world today.
Much more than we did years ago.
The world seems to be moving faster......faster than we know.

So hang up the phone and help her tie her shoe........
Get out your bikes, take a ride with her.
Watch her face light up, just knowing she's spending time with you.

Get out the cards and checker board game.......Crown him King for a day.
He'll enjoy it more spending time with you......
Than watching t.v. any day.

Take time......while there is time!

Passed Down to You!*

Today I tell stories to my children,
As my Parents told them to me.
It's an honor to pass down a Family Legacy.

I began to tell them about one particular day,
When I was about five or six, I'd say.
I remember as if it was yesterday.

My Family and I went for a long, long ride,
I kept asking them...."Are we there yet?"
It came as no surprise.

Finally my Mom said, we're here, we've arrived,
We walked into a place,
It was sparsely lit inside.

Then I asked her......."Where are we......we.....we?"
I stopped dead in my tracks,
With my Father right beside me all the way.
Who's that repeating everything I say.......say......say?

My Dad told me I would learn something new today.
He said "What you hear are called Echoes,
We're deep inside a cave".
"They repeat everything you say."

I really did learn something new,
Caves are like some people too........
Now ......I've passed this on to you.

Live and learn!
