All Part Of Growing Up
I used to lie in bed, afraid of the dark,
Wondering if there was something under my bed.
I used to wash my hair over and over again,
Hoping I could drown out the red.
I used to sit at the table long after dinner,
Because I refused to eat my peas.
I used to carry tissues in my back pocket,
Cause my alleges made me sneeze.
I used to go to school, sit in the front of the class,
To make sure I didn’t turn out dumb,
I used to have to wear braces on my teeth,
Cause as a child I sucked my thumb.
I used to cringe in the morning when I woke up,
To find a pimple on my face,
I used to think everyone would notice,
Though I know that wasn’t the case.
I used to study all night, go to class all day,
Till finally the day did come.
When I got a job and became a grown-up,
After my growing days were done.
