Long Goodbye

Long Goodbye
I'll not keep you any longer...
guess there isn't much to say
didn't know if you'd be home tonight
but, thought I'd call you anyway
And so how about this weather?
The heat is really something else
oh God, how I still love you...
(I said this softly...to myself)

How is your family doing?
I really hope they're doing well
Me?...Oh I've been busy
but, there's not too much to tell
I've a thousand things to do tonight
but, thought I'd call you up instead
I'd give my life and soul to touch you...
(I screamed this loudly...in my head)

How's things?...They're getting better
and I never touch the drink
what I feel, I put on paper
and only feel when I think
I say my prayers and never cry
my life's as it should be
but my tears were falling softly
(well...at least she couldn't see...)

I knew that she was busy
the complexities of life
and to her such things weigh heavy
for once...she was my wife
but, I'd taken much for granted
and so much had passed me by
and then the conversation faded
like the day fades into night

Now...you take care, I said to her
she asked I do the same
I know I've placed my hopes on her
but I couldn't place the blame
for in seeking absolution
I've nearly let my spirit die
I set the phone upon the rest
then said my long goodbye...

To be a husband takes a knack,
To mess it up and get her back
After you have had the sack,
Takes a lot, most of us lack.

Don't give up tho it takes pluck
To you, I wish a lot of luck..

Great poem thank you for sharing, reality sets the stage, each phase of life offers a door to pass through, time builds a bridge, change allows growth, a broken bottle leads the way to a new place, a phone call never means goodbye, it always starts with hello.
