I am a part of the great U.S.
A country that has made a mess
They lied to us they lied for the war
But in the end what was it for?
A city gone, thousands dead
“It’s no great loss,” the president said
“The less the better, we’ve won the war
It’s what we were all fighting for.”
But, I have not seen the mess,
The people running in distress.
The pain and suffering of a nation,
The piles of rubble the devastation.
Nothing living, nothing breathing,
The millions left to do the grieving.
A blinding flash, a mushroom cloud,
The shockwave rush that was so loud.
The awful fires that then broke out,
Open mouths but there’s no shout.
The poisoning then by radiation,
A plague of death, by mans creation.
For crimes committed a price was paid,
But on our conscience now it’s laid.
That now we’ve killed in freedom’s name,
We now all have to share the blame.
I am a part of the great U.S.
A country that has made a mess.
They lied to us they lied for the war
But in the end what was it for
