The Old Black Man On The Bus

Contributed by ruby1987 on Monday, 15th September 2003 @ 05:35:00 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

A normal cold and windy day,
Free from high school i hustle for a warm bus,
Through the window i watch lovers play,
While at the back, a beautiful baby makes a fuss.

By himself, an old black man gets on at the 7/11 stop,
The lines on his exquisite mahogany coloured face screaming a secret story,
His eyes full of Jazz 'n' Blues and B-Bop,
His back sat up in pure glory.

He begins joking with me and calls me kid,
When a lonely tear rolls down his fragile cheek,
So unforgettable that my memory plays it back so vivid,
And i wonder what the pain behind his crooked smile seeks.

Now i saw an old lonely man lost in despair,
With a heart so warm that was all alone,
The years of history showing by his frizzy grey hair,
And i treid to imagine how far his feet had flown.

I could see that he was filled with wisdom,
I could feel for something he was wishing,
The lines on his hands showed his battle for freedom,
Then finally i wondered if it was his old girl he was missing.

Very touching write!
It's really sad to me how when folks get old no one has time for them. that's a very sad thing.
I'm sure this ole man will never 4 get u either.
U never know u may have given him his first kind word in months.
Take care and don't ever loose your compassion-n-wisdom.
PEACE, JOY, LUV,
emy
