Tell Me Why?

Topic: EmotionalPoetry

One day
Past the age of twenty eight
And she was lonely and she was late
For work again

She cries more now that she ever has
Life has got her wishing for more than she’s ever had
He comes home, half past twelve, cracks that beer and fall asleep on the couch.
She works all night and cleans all day
She has got no one but, him and she is not O.K.

Tell me why
Tell me why does this girl not get away?
Tell me why
She has no ties
Tell me why
She doesn’t walk away today?

Her mother lives in Virginia and she’s in Tennessee
Her brother, William is in Memphis but, that’s still far away
Now this poor girl could call them both, they’d take her in and she could live again
But, she won’t
No, she won’t
She’s got her dead end job and her dishes to do. She’s got to walk the dog and bathe him too
She’s got everything and nothing for herself and yet she stays.

Tell me why
Tell me why doesn’t she just take off?
Tell me why
When old rover is old and gray anyway?
Tell me why?
She doesn’t walk away today?

The shop is closing and she turns to leave and as she goes she pockets the key
To her dead end job
She takes the long way at a brisk pace and the air feels cool on her face
She thinks back on the last year
The bills are piling up and the future isn’t clear
We don’t know why and we don’t how
But there is a smiling on her face now.
She closes her eyes and she breaths real deep
She goes home and she goes to sleep.
Her pleasure was real
Her smile was true
She’s a good lil’ girl and her life is too
She loves her man and she loves her dog and she likes her job when it pays off
It’s a hard life but, she’s making her way
The best way she knows how
She’s thankful for the sun in a day!

Tell me why?
Tell me why should she be unhappy if she is in love?
Tell me why?
When life gets tough the tougher get tougher and she is tough
Tell me why?
The sun is still shining and the worlds looking gold, she doesn’t have everything she wants but, she’s not old.
She is still young and she will keep trying and she makes love and she keeps buying
And paying those bills
She’ll get caught up and call her first baby Jill.

Married and wed six years down the road
There’s a baby on the way and she was told
It’s a little girl and she is going to be sweet
They are buying a house and she got days and the house is neat.
I was happy to hear it and I am happy to know that things are going good for them both. She’s cheered up and it cheered me, I had to write it all down because it was so sweet. So now,

I’ll tell you
Tell you why happiness is so easy
I’ll tell you why
There’s no excuse for living life without that smile
I’ll tell you why
Just living is worth the while.

Because there are good boys and sweet dogs and kids on the way, there are nice houses and good friends and love in everything.

Wow just like you can't tell when someone may be depressed, it can also go the other way, the life may not be great and they may seem depressed but they are happy. Nice turn around, nice outcome. Nice write.
Emma.
