Less Like You

Contributed by MoonlitAngel on Sunday, 14th September 2003 @ 05:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I've tried my best
But it's never good enough
I've followed my heart
But it took me in circles around myself
My head is stressed
I've just about had enough
I guarded my heart
But you got in somehow so what's the point in trying?

If I can't even be who I always thought I was
And I can't even speak when words are all I have to give
The stars are fading
And the sky is blurring
And I can't even feel the rain coursing down my face

I'd hold you up
But I'm afraid I'm too weak
I try to be steady
But these selfish hands just won't stop trembling
I'm all cut up
And silent for fear I'll misspeak
I'm crying already
I wish I could scream and break this wall in front of me

If I can't even throw it in your face and make you see
And I can't even tell you all the ways it makes me feel
My memory's fading
My vision is blurring
And I can't even feel the burning tears the rain erased

Someday this won't be so bad
I'll stop feeling so sad
And I'll stand up on my own
Grow a little backbone
Be a little less like you
And a little more like me

I like the honesty of the poem. Very personal. I'm not sure the rhyming in the last stanza works well with the rest of the poem, which is wonderful. I think there are stronger words you could use instead of "BAD" and "SAD". Nice read.

Awesome write here Moonlit. What more can I say? It is something I can relate to, even though I didn't realise it at first that I wasn't me, that it wasn't good enough being me, but if I can do something about it then I can tell you, I'm sure you can too. So best wishes with that.

Love Emma.
