Love is a Cycle

Love is a tree
Growing and thriving in the summertime sun
With plenty of water
Its flowers beautiful and becoming
But then fall comes and it starts to wither
Its branches getting heavy and its blossom’s shrink
It starts to lose hope, it is dying
But as winter hits it holds onto hope
and for a long time that’s all it has
Nothing else- just hope of what’s to come,
Knowing that it’s not worth it to give up
And sure enough, before long, the sun comes out
and Spring warms its trunk, all the way to the core
Leaves start to sprout everywhere and
The tree thrives.
Summer comes and the cycle starts again,
And every time winter comes it holds onto hope because
That’s what love is -
Hope.
And the realization that it’s not worth it to give up.
Love isn’t always smiles
If it was would we cherish the good times?
The times where nothing else matters but you and them?
No, they wouldn’t be as special.
