bi-polar
opposite
extreme
up down
and who wouldn’t rather be up
but, you’re flying
manic
invincible
high
delusional
and you’d rather be up, but then
go below low
morbid
melancholy
blue
suicidal
i met you the first night, and instantly liked you, we started talking right away, and i can’t say which one of us talked more. asked me why i’m here, depression i think, how about you?
bi-polar, stopped taking your meds, so then, of course, you went manic; no sleep for a week.
maxed out your credit card, a first rate hotel, room service for almost everything on the menu and champagne, then mail order catalogue shopping. said you bought a thirty dollar hook from a hardware store, what in the world for, girl? said it was for your hundred dollar robe.
and you had everything sent to your mother’s address, though you weren’t planning to get there, yourself. no, you were checking out in style. a bottle of dom perignon and a bottle of tylenol.
next thing you know, you’re in here, hotel staff must have found you. and weren’t you just here, a few months ago? why quit your meds? oh, you felt fine, and they made you gain weight. are you nuts? oh yeah…that’s why we’re here.
so you’re out of lock down tomorrow and up on the hill. i’ll most likely get transferred as well, glad to know. and you’re married but separated, myself as well. a boy in first grade, i’ve a daughter in sixth. he lives with his dad, who’s a writer, you like to write too. so do i.
so, you want to go back to your husband. no, not me. still, you say you’re not sure, you met a guy not too long ago. hmm, that was fun. but you still love your husband…i think you’re hedging.
like asking the pharmacist if you could drink
with your meds.

A great write. It was fast and busy and made me feel on edge, that's what writing is supposed to do - give you a feeling. Great! |
