In years gone by, t'was always thought
Ben Franklin said and it was bought,
A penny earned's a penny saved,
That's not the way cash has behaved.
A hundred pennies put away
Are worth about some ten, today
You saved good copper, now deflated
Old Ben Boy should be berated.
A guy who lived the 'Golden Rule'
He wound up feeling like a fool
The dough he saved when he was young
Put him high on the bottom rung.
What a joke, retire early,
Take a place with lovely Shirley,
We shall live the life of Riley,
Maybe better, bright and smiley.
Forget the fact that money's tight
Forget the fact that it's not right
You've heard about the 'Golden Years'
It's meant for doctors and their peers.
It doesn't take much to figure out,
In later years you get the gout,
You get arthritis, labrynthitis
Take your pick and choose youritis.
The phone can ring quite properly
Someone selling property,
Your cemetery, do not wait
Or you will hate to pay the freight.
I'll say no more, I sure am sore
It irks you, true and furthermore
They have it right, it's quite a fright
The 'Wagon' drags you out at night.
So go along and sing their song
Soon or later, they're not wrong,
Let us drink to 'The Golden Years'
Forget it all and have some beers.

My dear friend Norm
I'm as poor as a Church mouse.
I don't own any bank account or even a house.
I'm headed for the "funny farm!"
But when I get there they'll all know...all I have is charm!
I can't drink beer, but I wish I could.
I can't shed a tear, 'cause I know it's near...
I just live today, and then live tomorrow the same way....but Norm...You have your health...I hope....me too! Money is definitely important....but it's love that will get you through!
Wonderful poem as usual!

very clever and funny - as well as true - sucks getting old - especially when you got no dough - I figure I'll have to work until I flop over dead in my office - then somebody will fire me for sleeping on the job LOL
