The Distance Between

Is it any wonder I kick myself again
Letting you charm your way in
To my unsuspecting heart
Even when I feign nothing
There is that elemental spark
A recognition of likeness
Communed in spite of us
And I feel you tug away from me
But never quite hard enough
To severe the delicate web we weave
And what if - what if – what if
Are you so afraid of me?
The flesh of willing warmth encounter
The words from mouth to waiting lips
Swallowed in sweet surrender’s kiss
A fire smolders – red hot embers
Touch me if you dare, my love
Consummate this unholy lust
Or will you wait out this tide
Sail away in solitude’s despair
Of never having tasted so sweet
A love as I
