Summer Thing

The sun scalding my skin
Turning my flesh hard and red
Vacations with no one by your side
Why is summer so reveled?
The flings that leave you longing
Cancerous light upon your skin
His touch upon your lips
..Reaching your soul, a summer thing
And when the sun goes down
Over that late night grin
When the clothes are shed
All for that summer thing
Will you look back and wonder
What all it could have been
Had you met them another season
Would it be more than a summer fling?

An interesting question you pose at the end, and worth a bit of ponderance. I, myself, have never been in such a situation to be enslaved by the fabled summer fling, but the emotion is expressed in your poem, and simplistically, which is most understandable.
Good poem, Soul. Welcome to YPDC. |
