Moon Death

Aside he kept the crystal box,
Tied with a red beaming bow,
Told me one day moonbeams,
Would be mine to overthrow.
They currently ruled the skies above,
In this world of constant night,
And when I imprisoned every beam,
The world would be ruled by light.
For he told me I held the sunshine
The universe needed my smile
And I was content, with my destiny
If only, for a while.
Every night beyond the shadows,
I watched the moonbeams dance
As they illuminated the vast expanse
Of landscape in a trance.
Obsessed with beauty they star gazed
The stars would not be seen,
If moonbeams did not dance on
Shedding that silvery screen.
I began to think again,
Whether he was right
Whether those imprisoned beams,
Should be kept from the freedom of night.
Making up my mind, I crept to the box,
As darkness hid my form,
And he slept on as I crept in
Overhead there raged a storm…
Trembling, lonely in the night
Prickly heat set in,
Guilt of my conscience crawls as I
Erased my destiny ‘fore it could begin.
Ran my fingers over the ribbon,
What to do when he finds out?
But not thinking, I opened the box
As each moonbeam surged about.
Then with a stir, I realised,
The storm had disturbed his dreams
Then, over the moon kissed land
A dying cry was heard,
By deaf moonbeams.
