THE FINEST PIECE OF LACE
What matter is my colour?
My heart is not made of stone.
And yet I stand amongst you all,
Here I stand alone.
Why alienate me just because
I'm from a different race?
My feelings are as fragile as
The finest piece of lace.
What matter if my hair is blue,
And I paint my toenails black?
You stare at me as I walk by
And talk behind my back.
Why reject me just because
To you I look out-of-place?
My hopes and dreams are just like yours,
Wrapped in the finest piece of lace.
Why discard me just because
I wasn't what you hoped I'd be?
At times when I found need of you,
You turned your back on me.
I thought that friends were friends for life,
'Til you slapped me on the face.
Now I see how easily friendships break,
Just like the finest piece of lace.
My blood runs red. My mind can think.
I can feel and run and fall.
I have a life that is my own
But I share it with you all.
Why dislike me just because
I am one of the human race?
For we are all as delicate as
The finest piece of lace.

| Yet another beautifully written poem. A very powerful metaphor...yes, just like that finest piece of lace we should all be treasured for how different and beautiful we are. Ever painful is the close mindedness of our fellow man who cannot accept differences, if only we could all look beneath the surface and find the the true inner self of everyone around us. I thoroughly enjoyed this Sapphire an exceptionally talented write...Krystal:) |

| this is beautiful, great message too, my kids are part blackfoot and sometimes get this same thing, it is the loss of the ones who dont want to know them; not the indians, who are beautiful:) hugs n' love nessa |
