Denomination Be Damned

Contributed by jaeann on Thursday, 21st August 2003 @ 12:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: AngryPoetry

What are they waiting for?
A voice to set them free?
"Rest now ... I'll take over from here...
leave it all up to me."

They spout off their brand of scripture
sit in god's hallway on Sunday
with their secret doctrines and full wallets
then basphemy their neighbor on Monday.

A sad lot of folk .... some family
gossip mongers and pedophiles alike
charging fees for admission .... pass the plate
careful now there's a building fund hike.

They watch a child persecute his mother
brush it off as lucipher's deed
all in the name of his father
who signed a broken creed.

A flock of blinded sheep
with a wolf among their pews
angry, closed-minded lot of them
can't believe he's walking in those shoes.

What are they waiting for?
A voice to set them free?
"Follow me.... but I'm not really there...
I just wanted you to believe."

I am with Michelle on this one...I stopped going to church for this same reason as well...Im sure when I take the walk to my final judgment I am not going to be judged by how full I made the churches pockets or how well I wore my "sunday best"... Being catholic, I was forbidden to receive the holy eucharist until I repented for my sins of an abusive marriage that ended in divorce... I never repented to the church and I never will...Excellent poem jaenn very thought provoking, powerful words in this one. Great work! I really enjoyed this... Krystal:)

The folly of hypocracy shines well in this poem,
the herd mentality is most rediculous especially
when it comes to the absurdity of blind worship.

I love this!!! I am a church dropout as well
and for all of the reasons you were able
to express here so strongly. I bet it felt
good to let this out! Thanks for this.

Love,
POOBEAR

Dear Jayme,
Now you've hit a very tender cord in my heart.
I spent over 40 years, thought I'd never part.
They asked that I bow down to them, but not from the very start....
Tricky, coniving....hypocrites....love the darkness and not the truth! The bottom didn't fall out for me, though, because I could look beyond and know that my wonderful creator was not like them! Who needs a building? There's not one that is big enough to hold him anyway. Let them pay....who wants to be in a group of people that are being led by dirty hypocrites. Jesus called them Vipers....he was so right!
Wow, Jayme...you hit the nail right on the head!...Couldn't have been said any better by anyone! I just wish the blind would open their eyes! Before it is too late!
Wonderfully written
lovingcritters
Connie

Religion in Denominations are nothing more than smaller forms of our government, but with God really being emphasized. Do we really trust the government we live under? I don't. Think about it the Preacher is like the President and the deacons are like house speakers and so on. It was nice to see this write, on here tonight. Because I in fact had a talk with my two sons 12 and 9 about this very thing earlier in the car coming home. Thank you for sharing and writing such an honest worthy piece about this subject. I do believe in God and I know I don't have to be in a church to have church.
