TWICE UPON A NOON TIME DEARY

Contributed by robert_edgar_burns on Thursday, 21st August 2003 @ 06:05:00 AM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

Twice upon a noon time deary.
I wore sunglasses to see more clearly.
A raisin escaped from my vineyard shores.
“Never to return” quoth the raisin Algore.

As I awake within my palace,
I spill the beer foaming in my chalice.
I hear a bang, bang, banging on my door.
Could it be the raisin named Algore?

Said I to the stranger at my door,
“It’s later than three, it’s nearly four!”
With a deal of force I open the door.
It was a seedless grape and nothing more.

After drinking it’s delicious juice,
I yell quite loudly, “Let’s have a truce!”
Though now I was shaking and also craven,
I’d give anything to find that raisin.

Back into my bedroom churning,
Is my stomach acid burning.
I know there’s rolaids at the store,
But in the dark waits raisin Algore.

Way back in the days of yore,
We stood our ground with raisins gore.
I dreamed a vision which would change their ilk.
They must be drowned in a bowl of milk.

Upon awaking my purpose clear.
I’d keep some bran and milk quite near.
Then opening the mail chute in my door,
That raisin bounced across my floor.

It landed in my cereal bowl,
But looked more like a hairy mole.
Before it could just jump right out,
I sprinkled sugar all about.

It died from glucose way too high.
But the taste was great, it made me sigh.
If I could get more in a box,
Let’s say two scoops, that would be tops.

I’ll tell my next door neighbor
Who raises hogs.
To all of their neighbors,
They are the Kellogg's.
