Topic: Grief

Concealed behind the closet door,
another night of pain,
bruises, scars no one can see,
tears she cannot contain,
hands together, lost in prayer,
"please say mommy will be okay,
and if there is a God up there,
let her survive this day,"
whats wrong with father, hes mad again,
wishing he would just go away,
but every night its all the same,
and every night he stays,
she hears a cry from the room,
a fight only the man will win,
alcohol corrupts his mind,
and what a state hes in,
she keeps her eyes shut,
covering her ears,
but the visions haunt her,
and mommy's screams are all she hears,
she needs to leave,
this protected space,
too much pain,
is there to face,
and through the hall,
mommy grips a gun,
but her chances of winning,
are slim to none,
He knocks it straight from her quivering hands,
down the hall, to where the sweet child stands,
now he is more mad than ever,
could it all be over for mommy now?
the end seems to be coming closer,
an end no one could allow,
the little one creeps down the hall,
scared of what there may be to see,
violence fills the haunted room,
the gun, it had to be,
too many nights, too many days,
has this abuse carried on,
just one bullet, just one shot,
and daddys hate is gone.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
