Her hair so long,
Of golden brown,
She was only ten,
We were the very best of friends.
Her name Aleese Davies,
Everyones friend and bud,
The fifteenth of September,
Was her birthday to remember.
For your celebration,
Of your eleventh year,
You were inviting friends,
Down the river to have a swim.
I was not allowed to go,
My mum simply said no,
A simple explanation,
A simple you cannot go,
Too many undertows.
The next day to my shock and horror,
On the radio it was announced,
Appears you were pulled under,
And here is the story I was told.
There was an adult,
And she was with child,
There was a younger girl about nine or so,
And a boy that was her brother a little older than you,
And the family dog as well.
You were a strong swimmer,
One of the best in our grade,
Only You got pulled under,
Apparently you panicked.
The younger girl was with you,
She got pulled under too,
The boy grabbed the dogs tail,
His near death fate,
Thanks to his dog was undone,
The woman that was with child,
Was no use at all,
For her child that grew within,
She was scared she would lose,
So there she sat upon the shore.
Watching in horror as you both drowned.
This happened almost twenty five years ago,
Almost to the day,
You were an only child,
Your mother was devastated,
In every possible way.
There is hardly ever a day,
That ever slips by,
That I haven't asked this question,
Why did god take you away,
Someone with such a caring nature,
Why couldn't he take me instead,
At least then your mother would still have her baby girl,
For at least my mother had three.
But I know the answer to this,
And it is,
He simply takes the very best first,
Guess thats why you're in heaven,
And I am still down here.
