POLITICAL INTEGRITY…(©Peter Sprenkeler)
A quality pointedly lacking in the politics of today,
And the world ails as a clear and blatant result.
Finance and wealth are the real powers behind the faces,
Money influences…covertly controls…in victory it does exult.
Integrity is a stance where moral codes are strong,
A solid wall…impenetrable…impervious to compromise.
Pressures and influences can batter and pummel,
But true integrity will stand…and never waver…even when others despise.
Few are blessed with such a trait in the political field,
Many political decisions are tainted and marred.
Unethical and immoral decisions are a daily fact,
Is it with the same brush all politics is tarred?
Everyone has weaknesses and limitations,
Politicians are no different…still a part of the human race.
But those blessed with a powerful hold on integrity,
Will never do anything that will end in disgrace.
Unfair…unjust…unethical…immoral,
Words with which integrity just cannot contend.
Integrity will always enjoy a conscience so clear,
Because it never has inferior motives or actions to defend.
But money…power…prestige…can sorely test,
And tempt…influence…even control political decisions and lives.
But it seems to me healthy political counsel only exists,
Where personal integrity is alive and actively thrives.
