all the old folks
checking me out
instead of drug wars
the pigs cater to pension plans
wondering if what you said
was true
about me and you
the universe and such
feels like I'm in
some foreign land
roadkill and buffets aplenty
geriatrics elbowing me
for the fried okra
at least the boys
know what's good for them
just can't seem
to find one I like
wondering if what you said
was true
that we'll never love
like this again
so I'm trying to find you
make you take it back
because I can't stand
the thought
of being bound to you
of being without you
whilst you're still in control
of my heart
maybe I'm trying too hard
to make it work here
lying through my teeth
of who I am
where I've been
even the computer printout
couldn't call my bluff
at least I know
I've still got the advantage
of common sense
wondering if what you said
was true
that we'll get out of here
one day
I guess I'm still hanging on
still dreaming
of that Costa Rican beach
where the air is thick
and we
make love

This poem captures a mood, a mode of love
in an elusive way it touches upon a query;
"of being bound to you
of being without you
whilst you're still in control
of my heart"
there is a contradiction here I think,
the heart is not surrendered but controlled
being bound-being without
then there is the hopeful anticipation,
the uncertainty overshadowed by the willingness.

I really enjoyed your poem. Truthful and teaching....and so true. the word that comes to my mind is ambevilance....the I love you, or I hate you! Can be found in any lovers heart! I'm so sorry you have to be a part. .....short absence quickens love......long absence kills it! Hang in there!
