Abusive Parent, Take Note

Contributed by norm on Tuesday, 12th August 2003 @ 10:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

The people of earth will whatever they think,
Praise this and that, the now missing link,
The sunset, the moonrise, the tree on the hill,
The illiterate will even praise sweet Jack and Jill.

I fault no one here. I think they are right,
To praise every wonder that comes into sight;
But let's pause a mo' to give a thought wild,
To the poor, innocent, defenseless, wee child.

I'm going to get mad, I'm going to get sad,
How can an abusiving mother or dad,
Not cherish this miracle delivered by G_D,
To feed and to raise, not beat with a rod.

How can they take a mind filled with hope,
And grind it and bind it and fill it with dope
Or fill that mind, with hate or much worse,
Make it indifferent, much more of a curse.

Know it or not, a well brought up mold
will return to the parent, happiness untold,
The parent who abuses, I'm here you to tell,
As far as I care, can go right straight to hell.

Dear mother and father, let's get to the bottom,
You're the founders of generations infinitum,
If you make a base on which generations stand,
Solid and strong and moral and grand,

And then do it right and do it with kindness,
Future generations will prosper with fineness,
And now and then, a hero emerges,
That will cause your blood, many happiness surges.

Dear Norn,
What a beautiful poem for all of us that have been abused. Thank you so much for dedicating it to me, Norm. Now I will dedicate it to all those yet being abused out there, and to all the little ones that were abused, but didn't live to tell it. They were so courageous, and now so still!
