The Noose Tightens

The nerves threaten to consume you
You dig your grave of nails
But the night winds drown out
Your pain-induced wails.
You're now beyond caring
What impression you give ouy
For every injustice done
Makes your heart's response a shout.
Your stomach starts convulsing
You think that you'll be sick
But you're dry wretching from the memories.
With your conscience they will stick.
A barbed wire noose
Hangs loosely round your neck
But it seems that every happiness
Still does not bring love or self-respect.
The noose, it starts to tighten
The barbs break through the skin
You wish your life was over
You'll pay eternally for your sins.
You claw at your throat
A vain attempt to free
Yourself from this mess
But who caused it? can't you see.
You have no one else to blame
For this infinite emptyness
But your own tormented soul
Consumed by selfishness.
