Life hasn’t chosen who I’ve come to be inside.
I've been given this choice,
life's lessons my guide.
I love myself
and through tears and trials,
I've conquered the demons
that have threatened the miles.
I walk and reflect,
and all the while
thinking of happiness that I desire.
The miles were lonely
and the burdens heavy,
but when the time came to reflect,
on what and when or have I done that yet,
it’s not what I’ve done it is what I’ve learned.
It was then that I realized this smile I’ve earned.

Gogrl,
I thought this poem deserved A LOT of credit.
I could totally grasp your idea that a smile is a precious gift from God. Like, that smiling is just happiness at it's purest, you know? I just wanted to let you know that I really was touched by your writing.
