Quiet Echoes

Topic: Lifepoems

Quiet Echoes

How silent the graveyard
Serene the grassy field
Tho monuments of the past
A wealth of information they yield

As I walk by
I try to imagine their dreams
Their hopes, their fears
It’s not as hard as it seems

I imagine them living
Not yet concerned with death
Full of life’s expectations
Same as all who draw breath

A young man who loved Ellie
Someday hoped to make her his bride
Sent off to war
On a distant shore died

Grandma Anita Givins
Of whose wisdom they still speak
Written on her tombstone
“ Blessed are the meek “

As I muse I remember
My life too has an end
I resolve to be more responsible
With the life I spend

For I too will one day be
A monument in the grass
And perhaps another will ponder
Who I was as they pass

But I will leave a message
Quiet echoes of my stay
Sharing the lesson
I learned along the way

“ If you’re reading this poem “
“ Etched upon my stone”
“ Take comfort friend “
“ You’re not alone “

“ Make the most of your time “
“ Live life to the fullest each day ”
“ For the time of your passing ”
“ Is not so far away ”

Russ

i too.....survey the serene grassy fields.........this was a beautiful piece..........it brings an odd comfort to a mother to read other children's monument's.........knowing my angel has many friends with her....and i, sadly, am not alone.........
