Chicago streets, street musicians,
Bluesmen, weathered suits and string ties,
Apathetic, watch the world go by
their wine-soaked eyes.
Open guitar case on the sidewalk
in front of them.
Deft fingers pick six-bar blues, old Robert Johnson tunes,
Dust my Broom, and Sweet Home Chicago.
Hoping for enough money for five dollar rooms
and enough screw top wine to make it through the night.
For dawn brings hope, that their new day will
somehow be different, different than the thousand before

"Open guitar case on the sidewalk

I like some of the ideas you ahve here. I know Chicago well, but the line above is too ordinary. It could be worded better. Overall, the entire piece has a vibe, like a train a' comin'. And hell hounds on my trail. Just needs a bit of revision, then you got a piece.
