Waltz of the Switchblade Sisters

Contributed by Cancer on Sunday, 3rd August 2003 @ 11:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

Lisa Laceration
and Felicity Fleshwound
dance nightly on my wrists
hypnotically swaying
to the melodies of madness
leaving crescent slices
across my scarred skin

with their switchblade stiletos
the dance lithely across my veins
gracefully, they puncture
leaving track marks
reminiscent of earlier suicides

their cadence is the cocking of a pistol
their bass drum, a slowing heart
their crimson lips often kiss my scars
before chewing them apart

spinning, smiling
laughing, screaming
their seductive saunter reverts
to a series of seizures
that leaves them lying, exhausted
inside the crevice of my wound

my skin heals over their slumbering forms
and now they flow within my veins
chewing through tissue, devouring blood cells
elusive as viral strains
crawling into my warped mind
whispering nostalgic reminders
of their midnight dances on my tender flesh
exciting within me, a lust for one more dance
one last scar

i slit my wrists to free them
to see them dance once more
and as they laugh at my folly
my blood pours to the floor

gently edging me towards
then hurtling me off the edge of sanity
i plummet towards the darkness that waits
at the end of my scars
and the end of their dance

I've often tried to explain the thrill and the emotion within cutting yourself and never could really grasp it. But you hit it and wrote a very good poem. Very vivid and it just grabs you and pulls you in. Good job!

very, very interesting and well-written. You explain the emotions perfectly. How do yo write such great poems with such amazing regularity?

this is the most intense portrayal of self harm i've ever read. a truly breathtaking piece, and as much as that is cliched, i mean it. Kate x
