HOLLYHOCK DOLLS

Contributed by lovingcritters on Saturday, 2nd August 2003 @ 09:05:00 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

"Hi there, Miss Hollyhock.
You've grown so tall this year!
Why, you're even taller than me!
Perhaps nine feet?
Straight, and lovely my dear!"

"Forgive me, I didn't hear."
The wind was blowing,
'round your corner near the shed.
'Twas so loud, I couldn't hear what you said"

"Oh, you are so right!
The year before you were quite ill!
A little plant food with love and care,
Now you're better 'twas just the right pill!"

"I'm glad you asked.
I personally think your shades
of light pink, enhance the red.
But then you know me,
I may have missed,
what it was you said!"

"Your blossoms are wide open,
revealing bright yellow core.
Soft alluring velvet, wide open door.
Delicate pollen scattered,
Tiny bees taste, succor.

"Miss Hollyhock, you have
such beauteous flowers!
You have always been more than just pretty
Your precious blossoms surpass them all.
For one becomes a dancing ballerina doll!"

Young girls before WW two,
had few dolls.
Not like little girls of today do.
One of your buds and a toothpick,
Inserted in your upside-down bloom,
and with a 'tid-bit' of imagination.....
Creates a beautiful ballerina doll!
Dancing in a Ballroom.

"My daughters are grown now.
Miss Hollyhock, but on any given day,
We'd make your lovely dolls.
Sitting by your side for hours and play!
Making dolls though,
'Twas never quite enough.
We'd perform whole ballets.
Like "Swan Lake," or "The Nutcracker's Suite"
Dancing for hours, without a break."

"Yes, Miss Hollyhock, I'll bet you do.
And you know what?
I miss those many hours
spent with you too!"

If Mothers and their little girls
only knew what they miss,
For dancing dolls with your girls,
'Twas better than a kiss.
Kisses are plentiful,
but time spent together is rare.
Those that danced in Hollyhock ballets
Made memories,
that will last them for the rest of their days!

"It's been so pleasant dear,
To listen to you and be near.
I'm so glad to hear
that you are feeling
so much better this year!"

"Again, many thanks for your blossoms.
You know I don't have children anymore.
Just dogs that are mighty sweet.
I wonder which they will enjoy more,
"Swan Lake," or "The Nut Cracker's Suite?"

It's so fun being old
reliving your childhood
as memories unfold!

ah this is beautiful Conni, I do grow hollyhocks here in the desert but they dont thrive in this heat as I used to grow them back home but they are beautiful still the same. This is a thought provoking poem of sweet childhood memories. Thanks for sharing
