Truth tightens the chains of Slavery

Contributed by Cancer on Thursday, 31st July 2003 @ 04:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

i have seen the truth
and the truth DID NOT set me free
i have known the truth
it made a bigger slave of me

i crawled behind my lover's eyes
and ate every ***** lie
i crawled back out and asked her why
and this, my friends, was her reply:

"i love you
but not for you
i don't love you for your looks
or for your petty prowess in the sack
i don't love your stupid jokes
or your intellect
i don't respect you at all

i love you for your money
and i love you for a place to stay
i love you and i'll take everything
when i turn and walk away
i'll leave you broken and jaded
a hollowed shell of a man
tell all your friends that you beat me
i'll be the heroine, you'll be the *****
they'll have me, one at a time
or perhaps all at once
they'll have me on our bed, before i even leave
they'll do things to me you can't even imagine
and i'll do things for them, that i can't wash off
i'll kiss you with their taste on my tongue
and smile at you, you stupid *****

i love you for security
i love you because you worship me
i love you because no one else is around
and i guess, you'll do for now

you spineless worm, even as i tell you this
you haven't the heart to kill me
you'll just ride it out, hoping it'll work out
never a thought to leaving me
you'll let me walk all over you
you'll ignore the fact that i whore around
you'll never stand up to me
and when i leave, you'll cry
and beg me to stay

i love you because i have to
and because i need a place to stay
i love you and i'll take Everything
when i turn and walk away"

she smiled and ashed her cigarette
i hung my head and cried

and for all that she said
i loved her more
and tried all the harder to please her
i cried each night, as i held her tight
praying that she'd stay

and when she left, i begged her to stay
just like she said she would
and when she left, she took Everything
just like she said she would

i have seen the truth
and the truth DID NOT set me free
i have known the truth
it made a bigger slave of me

A bit different from the stuff you usually write but captivating and brutally realistic like everything you write. I liked this since i think everyone can relate to this in a different sort of way. The heartache of a broken relationship keep on writing man.

"Truth is, even if it is ?"
Nothing is going to set you free but you
'truth is the instrument, nothing more!'
Hey I am reacting because I relate to this, big time!
so really our take on this is quite opposite.
I wouldn't feel free if truth was to scare me, I would
any time swollow the bitter pill than the sweet lie!.
I am not judging you but questioning, debating
'love' is a sacred emotion, it is blasphemy to deny it
the truth, but you sound like you still want her, whereas I avoid people like I would avoid pests.
Without personal integrity there is nothing,
the poem I poasted "Thundering" is about the same.
Good poem provokes an honest answer, even if ?.
(I would have been much happier had I not searched for the truth, in everything in life, but I know no better.)

Sometimes truth hurts badly, but as vincy said - for me it is much better than not being sure if I am loved for myself or for other reasons. Truth in love is painful, but honesty is the best way to go ...

Your poem, as like many of your others, made me sit up and think of what I am doing to myself ... and yes, small pieces of what you said, I am guilty of ... it's good to be reminded from time to time what fools we can be in love ... Great poem btw. ...Jan

very good , super work. you face this, and boldly write this truth you see, and share it. most would not. this is very graphic and personal. you stand very tall to me. Crow
