Don Arracho and Segundo provide two shields
for those that go to fine San Luis Ore.
Both carry deadly rifles, Huerra wields
the sword with grace and knows the savage lore.
Huerra spoke. "Going to Rancho San Luis Ore is an excellent excuse to
combine business with pleasure, Excellency." Don Hernandez directed
the servant to refill Captain Thompson's glass. "Have you visited
Rancho San Luis Ore, captain," he asked. "A few years ago, sir.
Captain Luego asked me to accompany him in finding a deserter who'd
stolen ships goods. He was reported living with the Grabano Indians. We
found him in Pine Canyon." " Yes, I remember the incident now. It
gave Miquel reason to push the indians back across the river - stop their
encroachment upon his lands." Margarita spoke words in uncle's defense.
"Uncle Miquel moved the indians because they were growing chia on his
grazing land, father. There are fields enough beyond Rio Laurius for
agriculture." " Without doubt, my daughter. But Captain, whatever happened
to the deserter?" " The goods were recovered. The man was brought back to
the ship for corporal punishment." "Jose, Dona Rose said to her husband with
a disproving look, "must we talk about such things tonight? I'd like to hear
more about Lahaina and the waling ships."
