July 2003
I got me a deal the other day.
It was a veritable steal, I say,
A dozen batteries that surely were fine
Their sides noted clearly the word,'Alkaline'.
We all have plenty of remotes by the score,
They work TeeVee sets, garage doors and more,
These batteries I decided the TVs, they're for,
And started to put them in one, two, three, four.
I took number one to the number one set,
I pushed POWER ON, and what did I get?
A dark screen I got, I expected much more,
All sets worked the same, I walked to the door.
For I'm not a dope, I looked at the wall
To make sure the sets were plugged in, at all,
Nothing but nothing for my wonderful deal,
Have I received, so far, from my wonderful steal.
Aha, of course, the circuit's askew,
The TeeVee sets now will act just like new,
I looked at the breakers, they all looked just fine,
There's no more to check, It's the end of the line.
"Hey, Shirl", I shrilled, "Did you pay the bill,
to the electric company, up on the hill?"
Said she, "I gave you a check to mail last week"
"You're right, my sweet", I answered, quite meek.
For men like me, who are running the world,
Please wives, give up knitting, whatever you've perled,
Take care of things that women should do,
The shopping, the cooking and the mailing, too.
This battery deal could lead to divorce,
It's not like the code of Samual Morse,
The code of ethics between husbands and wives
Is a give and a take and a push all your lives.
