For My Dad...

Contributed by markymark on Saturday, 10th August 2002 @ 07:27:43 AM in AEST
Topic: Tributes

I TRY TO IMAGINE THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US,
MEASURED IN MINUTES AND MILES
I THINK TO THE LAST TIME I SAW YOU
A FACE THAT WAS LIT UP WITH SMILES

I TRY TO BELIEVE WHEN I SEE YOU
I WONT COME ACROSS FEELING SAD
I'LL REACH OUT MY HAND, BUT TO GREET YOU
AND REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES WE HAD.

SOMETIMES WHEN I'M FEELING SO LONELY
RIGHT DOWN IN THE DEPTHS OF DESPAIR
I SOMEHOW DRAW STRENGHT FROM YOUR MEMORY
YOUR PRESENCE I FEEL EVERYWHERE.

AT NIGHT WHEN I LOOK TO THE HEAVENS
AT STARS THAT HAVE COME INTO VIEW
I KNOW THAT THE BRIGHTEST ONE SHINING
IS SHINING AT ME, AND IT'S YOU.

I LIKE TO BELIEVE, THAT YOU MADE ME
THE PERSON THAT I AM TODAY
STILL EAGER TO LEARN AND TO LISTEN
I STILL HEAR WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY

I DONT KNOW IF I EVER TOLD YOU
I DONT KNOW IF YOU EVER KNEW
HOW HAPPY I WAS TO HAVE KNOWN YOU
BUT SAD THAT YOU ONLY PASSED THROUGH.

SO NOW AS I LOOK TO THE FUTURE
WITH ONE EYE STILL IN THE PAST
THE YEARS HAVE FLOWN BY
THE TEARS HAVE RUN DRY
BUT MY MEMORIES OF YOU THEY WILL LAST.....

MDM...13/6/99...for you Da...

A very moving portrayal of an obviously wonderful father/son relationship. Some things between two people never really have to said out loud to be understood.........he knew.

Being captured in someone's memory, is the secret to everlasting life.....

Absolutely lovely poem. Miss my dad, too, and you said everything here I would want to say to him. Very well done. You commented on my "One Last Night" (thanks, by the way). I didn't know who you were and I'm glad I took the time to find your poems and read them. Don't have time, however, to comment on each and every one, but I wanted you to know I love what I've read and will be watching for more.
Take care,
Patricia
