You Are Man Too

Contributed by Red_Silo on Thursday, 24th July 2003 @ 11:05:00 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

Imagine in the night,
A great city,
Burning its great lights,
Glowing so bright it shimmers in your sight.

You, and only you,
Standing before the vastness,
Amidst the solemn beauty of now,
And everything in the past.

The clouds rising to the heavens,
The moon…seeming partly there.
Only found as a cloud breaks,
And reflected whiteness scatters as you stare.

Only you can know what is there.
Because it is your city,
And you have decided who is there.
Is it built the way you see yourself….Is it built the way you see the world?
All bonded into an atmosphere,
Only to forever be there.

Is anyone found to be rich,
Is anyone found to be poor,
Are you like them too,
Or is no one there as earlier and it’s still just you?

Could life in that city last more than a day?
Maybe you could breath for eternity if you had your way.
But suppose you had all you wanted,
And you could even fly.
With no one there would you start to hurt?
Could you figure out why?

If I could see your city I would break it in half.
Destroy all its “supposed to be perfect people” till no one was left.
Scorch your fields, and ground your structures.
Wait to die and see Jesus my Brother.
Because man has no idea.

No idea what’s behind them,
No idea what’s before them,
Or anything to come.
It’s best to pass on and be perfect before you make your own home.
We all dream of the things that make us think and do wrong.

another good poem, I like the way it ended in a near apocalypse and the parts where you broke from the meter and rhyming structure
"Could life in that city last more than a day?
Maybe you could breath for eternity if you had your way."

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
