rubbernecking

Topic: AngryPoetry

come on in
and watch me bleed
my wrists are open
all for you

yeah, i know you wanna look
like a car wreck
so sick, but you just can't help yourself
you stare in fascination
as i drip to death

would it be such a turn-on
if i were dying some other way?
i just don't get it, you're so inconsistent
what if i had AIDS
would you all line up beside my bed
and stare at the sores, oozing on my head
what if i had MS
no, no, no, Nothing cool about that is there?
but, when they show the tapes of 9/11
you glaze, spellbound, as thousands of tapers are snuffed
but, you won't admit your pleasure
won't admit that, somewhere deep down, you love it
you know you do, don't lie to me

and what about dear old dad
decaying in a hospital, being eaten alive by cancer
do you sneak peeks at him
biting your lip in anticipation
hoping to hear a death rattle
praying that he'll flatline before Sex & the City comes on

then there's granny
nothing special
just slowly rotting in the nursing home
do you sit with her, pretend to watch the news with her
but, instead, stare out of the corner of your eye
wondering what she'll look like in her coffin
do you breathe deep when you hug her
trying to catch a whiff of the death
that is surely getting near
and when she finally croaks
do you curse the old bat for kicking off
while you weren't there

i'm almost out of blood
but i've got one more question

what about when it's your turn?
will you begrudge others their money shot
what about when it's you and your family
twisted and mauled in that car
how will you feel
when your daughter is thrown through the windshield
and traffic backs up for miles
as everyone else creeps by
rubbernecking
drooling as they watch your whole ***** world fall apart
will you use your last ounce of strength
to flip them off
or will you put on a show
will you reach into the gaping cavity
that used to be your wife's chest
and yank out her heart
waving at the crowd as you take a bite
what are you gonna do?

i hope the next time you rubberneck at an accident
you wreck and ***** die

i'll wave as i creep by, ***hole

this gets to me too. society is so desensitized to some things but shockingly voyeuristic when it comes to others. morbid curiousity gone mad i suppose. this is a powerful, emotive write - keep them coming. Kate x

I agree with you and this poem. While we were driving truck there was one time that stood out for me, had two big trucks and a car come together the road had not been completly closed we were all creeping until rubber neckers going the opposite direction caused another wreck which part of it came back onto ourside behind us. End result both sides closed with a huge accident. We sat on the freeway overnight. Yes i get upset with the rubber neckers also. One day they may be looking and see something that will haunt them for the rest of their life. Not cool not cool. Great write.

People are attracted to tragedy... curious little creatures - sick, but true.
Trivium - "Pull Harder At The Strings Of Your Martyr" focuses on this subject.... kind of.
