With one surgical strike
They sought to do the deed
By one killing stroke
From mass death be freed
But his ghost eludes them still
An unseen guest at the feast
His voice now calls for vengeance
To attack the invading beast
They try in vain victory to assert
Saddam‘s ghost blocks their way
Perverse fortune drives them mad
Each new turn serves to betray
Greater power they had over the king
But their strength is turned to fear
And with a spirit sore and sapped
They find no course to steer
But to retreat in confusion
He stalks them in their dreams
With fevered brows that long for sleep
The heat can't cloak their screams
Each soldier now wild-eyed in fear:
says 'Turn, hell-hound, turn!'
But unwelcome guests in a foreign land
Now feel their conscience burn
Strangers they are to this foreign place
Where confusion is all around
While madness shows its fearful face
Washing bloody hands on sandy ground
