An Obituary
They were a pair,
Always been together,
For many a year!
Where one went,
The other followed.
Step by step,
They faced their world,
without fear!
Browner than most,
Wrinkled, bent out of shape.
Faced many a "Clorox" bath!
Prepared millions of meals.
Resided as host!
Their hard work and much strife,
Left their soul's (soles)
Ragged and thin!
Yet, each morning with courage,
they plugged on,
Never being relieved by near kin!
They became an embarrassment!
No teeth to speak of,
Tonques torn side ways,
They had begun to count their days!
On their days off,
They looked sicker than sick!
Smelled delicious at home.
Puppies relished each lick!
Montie's mother began to shout,
"They are dying,
Put them our of their misery!
Please knock them out!"
Then Montie would reply,
"They are so comfortable,
They fit just right,
A new pair is always so tight!"
Montie's mother insists,
"They look dead, put them to rest!
They've run the hard race,
They've stayed the course,
They've given their best!"
So, a funeral was finally held.
Their coffin was the garbage can all white.
The puppies were sad, Montie grieved,
His Mother was overcome with delight!
Montie was still reluctant,
Dogs cried over their missed meal.
Replaced by a new pair, black as coal.
More last, and thicker soul (sole)
Yes, was a very sad day, indeed
When these stinky, wrinkled, smooth soled,
Dirty, two fold, bent ouf ot shape,
sad faced, no laced, pair,
Who no longer resembled shoes,
Were finally thrown away!
In memory of Montie's old cooking shoes!
