Soon Margarita goes to uncle's home
to ride El Diablo in open fields.
Rancho San Luis Ore's where she will roam.
Such sky and space, their beauty never yields.
Huerra spoke. "Senorita rides well. She should tell you about Diablo."
"Senor Huerra makes mention of my horse at Rancho San Luis Ore.
I've not ridden him for three years." Captain spoke. " You must miss
him, Senorita Hernandez." "There are other things I miss more."
"Family, friends?" " Of course, Captain Thompson. In a few days
I'll be at my uncle's hacienda. I'm so excited about returning. Did
you know that mama and papa are coming with me?" "Yes,
Senorita Hernandez. Your father mentioned it earlier today aboard his
ship. He said that Senor Huerra and Senor Silva also return with you."
Huerra spoke again. "Segundo and I provide protection, Captain Thompson.
It's not always safe to travel these roads alone for there are renegade
indians who like to do harm." Dona Thresa, wiping her mouth
with napkin, made motion for the servant to refill her plate with beef and
beans. She reached for more tortillas. She spoke through a full mouth.
" I feel so safe with you protecting us, Senor Huerra. Jose, tell them how
fortunate we are to have their company." Don Hernandez spoke to the men.
" It is always better to travel in numbers, Senor Huerra. Your decision to
return with us is most welcome."
