What makes the woman

Contributed by Baby`Fallen`angel on Friday, 12th July 2002 @ 01:07:44 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

The girl became a mother
The girlfriend became a wife.
Your plastic pans
Are now stainless steel
You've upgraded your whole life

Grown men are allowed to be schoolboys
But where is the schoolgirl in you?
Do you yearn to wear boas
Big hats
Ropes of pearls
Mother's make-up
Old handbags
Big shoes?
Do you ever sit chatting to Dolly
While tidying the playthings away?
Or give Bear a hug?
Or take a quick sip
From the tiny teacup on the tray?
Are your memories stirred from years later
Does the thought of them give a slight shock?
When what Action Man did to poor Barbie
Made Tiny Tears' crib really rock?
Do you want to have posters of pop stars
Surrounding your bright-coloured bed?
Would you like now and then
To trade-in your old man
And spend time with your father instead?
Do you wish you could eat what you want to?
Not feel guilty for ordering ice cream?
That to marry a film star
Or Sting
Or James Bond
Was still an achievable dream?

Don't deny the small girl still inside you
Say she's something the world shouldn't see
For each memory,
Each dream
Each tear
And each scar
Make the woman I see before me.
