Eight years old...
'You'll never walk' is what you were told
I frowned when i met you and saw the wheelchair
But you just smiled
You had a long travel to the doors of the school
But a helping push you refused
I couldn't understand your happy demeanor
You couldn't run and play at recess
Couldn't stand up to stretch
How sorry i felt for you
I was quite confused
Thirteen years old...
You're in marching band!!!!
Sure you were on crutches and you had to play your music from the stadium
But you marched to the field all on your own
Your feet kept time
And you carried that baritone saxophone that was taller than I
Horse-playing students knocked you down
You dusted your knees and rose to your feet, still refusing help
I finally realized you were not the unfortunate one
So many don't even know what they have
We hit tiny obstacles
Some sit out of the game for a month because they stubbed a toe
I felt quite silly for ever feeling pity
'Cause it was the others who were missing their lives...

This is so sweet and it is so true. I think we have all known or seen someone like this in our school days. |

This poem touches me. I'm really glad he had the "spunk" to carry on with his life. You've done a fine job with this write.
Regards,
Ramfire |
