Do Poets Lie?

The question that is on the floor,
Said Poe's raven, "Nevermore?"
Did Washington Irving's Icabod Crane
Know a horseman without a brain?
Did Canon Doyle write like Hoyle?
Did Sherlock Holmes always spoil
The bad guy's plot to steal a lot?
Was Doctor Watson not a sot?
And on and on, the questions come
Total up, they're quite a sum,
Unanswered trivia at it's best
You all seem to test and test.
The famous Dewey Decimal system
Puts books in places you can't miss 'em,
Some were numbered for non-fiction
Others were for spurious diction.
Please believe our poems are fiction
To be otherwise would be addiction,
The stuff I write ain't too bright,
If you look close it's quite contrite.
If you hear I wear a halter
Don't believe that I did falter,
I did not have a heart attack
You can bet that I'll sure be back.
So it is with all the libels
Ask the poets, swear on bibles
If what they write is really true
Bunch a bunk twixt me and you...

your comment's like
the author, see,
Dear ms Shari
Don't stand close
You'll wind up being
too verbose.
That's alright..
I think it's cute

a white lie is a lie just the same
so if we lie we have ourselves to blame
my fairytales are never real
life would be grand if those listed as fairytales
were really true.
Great write Norm most of mine are true to this life.

Much might be said on both sides..
Both truth and lies dominate the human nature

A poet surely could tell a lie or two
to bring about the eventual truth. |

Dear Norm,
Speak for yourself, John
For my poems are authentic
If it's good I tell it all,
If it's gory I leave out alot of the gall!
Unless I have houses speak
Or perhaps shoes that reak.
You can be sure that lies may come
from some poets writes, but not from mine
dear Norm, unless they are for fun!
I wish I could tell the difference 'bout yours
For when a truthful poet writes trueblue
It's hard to view
another poets poems for anything but true!
That's all I can truthfully say....except
I loved your poem, Norm....I know it was true
as true can be anyway!
